RE: SUPPORT FOR CONFIRMATION OF MARILYN HENDRICKSON
FOR CALIFORNIA FISH & GAME COMMISSION
Dear Senator Perata,
Our organization, the Alliance for Communities
for Sustainable Fisheries (ACSF), has been organized to represent
the economic, social, and cultural interests of the recreational
and commercial fishing industry in the geographic region from
Port San Luis (Avila Beach) to Pillar Point Harbor in San Mateo
County. As the name implies, we are committed to the preservation
of sustainable fisheries and link fishing activities with the
greater communities that support our industry. Resolutions supporting
the efforts of the ACSF have been adopted by the city councils
of Monterey and Morro Bay, by the elected commissions of the San
Mateo County, Moss Landing and Port San Luis Harbor Districts,
and the Santa Cruz Port District.
Members of our organization support the economic
benefit provided to California by our seafood industries and recreational
activities that equal billions of dollars. We have a keen interest
in the health of our ocean and sustainable resources.
Members of the Alliance support the heritage and
economic value of fishing to Californias coastal communities.
To preserve and enhance that value, the ACSF offers to work constructively
to ascertain and guarantee that we have the best and current oceanographic,
socioeconomic, and fisheries science to accurately compile information
for science and that it is available for developing public policy
used for healthy, sustainable fisheries, and marine conservation.
Thank you for the opportunity to address the Senate
Rules Committee in support of Marilyn Hendrickson for Senate confirmation,
as appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to serve on the
California Fish and Game Commission. It is our experience that
Mrs. Hendrickson shows good working knowledge of the States
natural resources. While on the Commission she has studied the
issues and paid attention to testimony and participates actively
in discussion, exhibiting her understanding of the issues. She
has acted moderately and fair, and has used common sense. We respectfully
urge the Senate to confirm her appointment. Thank you very much
for considering this recommendation.
